This will be my third, and maybe last Summer Clearance Trade. I'm going to feature each team in an individual post to give you an idea of the cards available. I have cards from each team, except Astros and Phillies. The deal is, I'll send you a bunch of cards of your favorite team, you send me some Phillies and/or Astros you don't want.

The cards I'm dealing are junk wax, no relics, autos or hard-to-get parallels. They are mostly base cards but from a wide variety of sets. Most teams are loaded with more recent years (2010-2012) but I have a lot of cards from the 1980s and later gotten from repacks.

 You can send me as many Phillies/Astros cards as you want. I'll be featuring each team in alphabetical order over the next few weeks. The first person to claim a team by making a comment in that team's post gets the team. This is hard to coordinate so I'm not taking any advance reservations.  Good Luck!

Movie Review - Moonrise Kingdom

If you're looking for a movie that is nothing like Spiderman or Batman or any of the big summer blockbusters, you should check this out.

Here is IMDB.com's capsule description "A pair of young lovers flee their New England town, which causes a local search party to fan out and find them." This hardly does justice to this marvelous little film.

The "young lovers" in question are right in the center of the poster. 12-year-old Sam is a Khaki Scout (think of Boy Scouts) on a long summer camp-out with Troop 55. He's an unhappy, misfit orphan who nobody likes. Suzy, is a 12-year-old girl, bored with her family life and yearning for adventure. The camp and her home are located on an island off the coast of New England somewhere. The whole story takes place in 3-4 days in September 1965 as a hurricane descends on the island. Sam runs off from camp, Suzy runs away from home and they meet in the woods. He gets a friend, she gets adventure. Everyone else runs around looking for them. Then the storm breaks.

The story is improbable, sweet, funny and mystical.  And it has a wonderful cast. The kids playing Sam and Suzy are great. The adults are an all-star cast consisting of Bill Murray and Francis McDormand as Suzy's parents, Bruce Willis as the island policeman, Edward Norton as the bumbling scoutmaster and Harvey Keitel as the Scoutmaster General.

The movie was directed by Wes Anderson who has done such quirky movies as Mt. Rushmore, The Royal Tenebaums, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and The Life Aquatic. If you liked any of these films you're like this. If you're unfamiliar with these other films go see this anyway and they watch the others.

Song of the Week Save The Day by Clair de Lune

Here's a song I just picked up from Minnesota Public Radio daily song podcast. I wasn't able to learn much about the singer. She's from Minnesota (maybe the link to MPR). The guy who starts singing along with her is apparently called TruthBeTold and the other dude is MaLLy, two other Minnesota artists. I really like her voice and the instrumentation is really haunting. I'm not a big hip hop fan but the part with MaLLy goes well in the total piece.

Song of the Week - When I Was A Boy, I Watched The Wolves - Paul Kantner/Grace Slick

Here's one for all of you that look back fondly on the San Francisco music scene in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

As Jefferson Airplane was falling apart, Paul Kantner pulled together a bunch of musicians and produced the classic Blows Against The Empire album. He called the assemblage "Jefferson Starship". Although Jefferson Starship would become a real band in the '70s, they were far removed from what was accomplished on this album. Kantner and Grace Slick, produced another album in 1971, with many of the same musicians, called Sunfighter featuring their baby girl, China, on the cover.  This is my favorite track from the record. It features Kantner on vocals and guitar, Slick on vocals and piano (sounding much like Nicky Hopkins), Jerry Garcia on guitar, David Crosby and Graham Nash on vocals, Peter Kaukonen on mandolin and Shelley Silverman on drums.
