My last post was about some Phillies merchandise I got during our trip to Philadelphia last week. One of the things I picked up was a boxed set of 2008 Upper Deck Phillies World Series Champions. I'm sure all you Phillies collectors who lived in Philadelphia in 2008 are familiar with this but I'd never heard of it before. I made a few comments about it but now that I've had a chance to look at it more closely I'm really glad I bought it. Especially since the box cost only $5.99. I should have bought 2.
There are 50 cards in the set, and an oversized bonus card.
The first 25 cards represent, I think, the Phillies roster for the playoffs. The design of the card is based on the 2009 Upper Deck base set.
The cards are glossy and without foil. The main difference from the 2009 cards is the row of stars up the left side and the World Series logo. Two of these cards (Scott Eyre and J. A. Happ) do not appear on any other 2008 cards as Phillies. Also, Matt Stairs, who joined the Phillies late in the season is on two cards in the set. His only other 2008 Phillies cards is a high number Topps Heritage. The photos are all different from the regular 2008 Upper Deck set. The only repeated photo is of Scott Eyre. The same photo was used for his 2009 Upper Deck card. Here's a few more.
Cards 26-40 are 2008 Season Highlights of various Phillies. These are similar but have "Season Highlights across the bottom.
Jamie Moyer was a big fan favorite in 2008 and 2009 with the Phillies. He now does color for the Phillies TV broadcasts.
Lidge will always be remembered for saving 48 games out of 48 chances through the World Series.
Cards 41-49 are Memorable Moments for the Phillies in the playoffs.
Shane Victorino, aka "The Dodger Killer".
Jenkins only played 1 year for the Phillies but he had a big impact in the series.
The last card commemorates Cole Hamels, the 2008 World Series MVP.
And, finally, the over-sized card. What Phillies phan will ever forget this moment?

If I have seen them, they were more than $6 or I ignored them. Do you recall which K-Mart you found the set?
I found these at the K-Mart on Street Road, west bound, west of Woodhaven Road. They had several dust covered boxes.
