As you probably know, Topps is suing Upper Deck over their use of O-Pee-Chee designs. But Upper Deck has been mining old Topps designs for ideas for years. Here are some Mike Schmidt cards from Upper Deck Decade 1970's.
This is an insert called Disco Era Dandies.
Here's another called Bell Bottomed Bashers. I don't remember bell bottomed baseball uniforms. The type font and bell bottoms make me think more of the 1960s rather than the 70s. The excuse for featuring this set is that the always generous John has sent me some more cards. One was this card which I didn't have. I now have 25 Mike Schmidt cards from 2001. I thought I must be getting close to having all of them but according to Beckett.com there were 127 Mike Schmidt cards issued in 2001! There is even another Schmidt insert from this set called Dynasties.
I think the Upper Deck was inspired by 1975 Topps.

I'm sure it was inspired by '75 Topps because I love both sets.
It's funny how the sagging economy brngs out the lawsuits in a lot of people... :-)
