2011 Goodwin Champions #181 Buck Ewing Buck played from 1890 to 1897 for such teams as the Troy Trojans, the Cleveland Spiders and the Cincinnati Reds. He was the first player in major league history to hit 10 home runs in a season.

2008 Upper Deck Timeline #109 David MurphySpeaking of the World Series, this guy's playing in it. He hit .333 in the ALDS, .412 in the ALCS but is hitless so far in the World Series.

2005 Fleer Patchworks Jersey Michael YoungAnother guy in the current World Series. I hadn't intended that today's edition of Baseball Birthday's turn into a World Series celebration but it has.

1996 Topps #7 Mickey MantleIn 1996, Topps "retired" #7. Since then, if the flagship Topps set has a card number 7, it's Mantle. I don't have a single Mantle card from when he was playing. I'll have to rectify that.

2011 Topps Kimball Champions #89 Whitey FordAnother Hall of Famer and, of course, contemporary of Mickey Mantle. He had a 236-106 record over 16 years.

2009 Topps Heritage Mayo #15 IchiroA 28-year-old Rookie of the Year in 2001, Ichiro has been one of the best and most consistent players of the past decade. Now 38, he is perhaps slowing down a bit, hitting only .272 in 2011, the first year of his career he failed to hit over .300.
