Back in 1991, Topps published a quarterly magazine called "Topps Magazine". It had articles about baseball and Topps baseball cards. It might have started in 1990 and might have run past 1991, I don't remember. The magazines were about the size of your average comic book and had "FREE BASEBALL CARDS INSIDE".
Here are the Fall and Winter issue covers.
As I remember, the free cards were on a thicker stock (but still thinner than typical cards from 1991) that could be torn from the magazine. There were 4 cards on the page, separated by perforations. Here are some of the cards I have scanned.
Most of the cards featured some past Topps design. In case you're wondering, this is not Carter's actual 1986 card. He was with the Indians then. As I remember, each issue featured the same design cards.
I believe this is a very early instance of Topps exploiting their own past for design ideas.
In some issues, they featured an original card design.

I have an issue from 1993 featuring Nolan Ryan's final season. I don't think Topps Magazine lasted much beyond that.
I love Topps Magazine and wrote about them a while back. If you're bored and want to see all of the covers... here's a link to my post;
