Card #23815
2004 Fleer Platinum #51 Placido Polanco
Comments on the card/player: Fleer Platinum was available from 2001-2005. The set, for the first 4 years, took inspiration from 1980's Fleer card designs. The 2004 set is based on 1984 Fleer. It incorporates the old Fleer logo with the added Platinum logo. The cards were printed on white card stock with no gloss of foil. In 2005, the last year of the brand, Fleer completely changed the set, using an original design with gloss and foil.
How/When acquired: I paid $0.50/card for a few packs of this in June 2004.
Card #45969
2014 Topps #246 Eduardo Nunez
Comments on the card/player: Pretty good composition on a vertically oriented card. I like how the player is moving through the frame.
How/When acquired: I paid $0.22/card for some packs from Toys 'R Us (had to get some purple parallels).
Card #26648
2006 Topps #398 Ryan Howard
Comments on the card/player: Kind of an awkward photo of Howard. 2006 was the last year Topps used cartoons on the card backs.
How/When acquired: I got this in my 2012 Great Summer Trade Clearance.
Card #34192
2009 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions #133 Joba Chamberlain
Comments on the card/player: The first and best year for Goodwin Champions. By 2010, Upper Deck lost its license to produce MLB cards. An obvious attempt to cash in on the Topps Allen & Ginter success but a very nice set.
How/When acquired: Paid $0.23/card for a blaster box in May 2009.
Card #3234
1988 Donruss Pop-Up Dave Winfield
Comments on the card/player: These came in a wax pack with 5 All-Star cards and 2 puzzle pieces. Can't say I remember seeing these on the shelf in 1988. It's the only one of these I have.
How/When acquired: Paid $0.11/card for a repack in February 2008.
Card #29779
2008 Topps Allen & Ginter #181 Moises Alou
Comments on the card/player: Alou managed to have a 17-year career but was often injured. While on a rehab assignment in the minor leagues following hernia surgery earlier in 2008, Alou tore his right hamstring in July which ended his season and his career.
How/When acquired: Paid $0.25/card for a blaster box in August 2008.
Card #32111
2009 Topps Gold Border #451 Ryan Perry
Comments on the card/player: Perry was the Tigers #1 pick in 2008. In three years he was 5-6 with the Tigers and then traded to the Nationals in 2012. He won 1 game with the Nationals before being sent back to the minor from which he never returned. The Nationals released him this past July.
How/When acquired: Paid $0.15/card for some loose packs in May 2009.
Card #44721
2013 Topps Chrome Orange Refractors #109 Jay Bruce
Comments on the card/player: I don't buy a lot of Topps Chrome so I often don't see these parallel chrome refractors. Orange?
How/When acquired: Paid $0.68/card for a rack-pack in September 2013
Card #25456
2005 Leather & Lumber #16 Bobby Abreu
Comments on the card/player: Donruss and Fleer seemed to be in a race to see who could produce the most different sets. This set isn't too bad looking but I generally don't care much for cards which remove the player from the context of a baseball game for an abstract design.
How/When acquired: Paid $0.50/card for some packs in August 2005.
Card #10751
1993 Leaf Gold Rookies #4 Mike Piazza
Comments on the card/player: This 5-card set was inserted into 1993 Leaf Update. There was a 25-card set in the regular 1993 set, available in hobby packs.
How/When acquired: Paid $3.49 on eBay in May 2004.
