This song, co-written by Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith, was released on the 1978 Patti Smith Group album Easter. It is their best know song and probably the most accessible of Patti Smith's work. Patricia Lee Smith, the "Godmother of Punk", released her first record Horses in 1975. She was enormously influential on the New York City punk circuit in the 1970s. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 and still records the occasional album, her last being 2007's Twelve.
According to Wikipedia, Bruce Springsteen has not recorded a studio version of this song although concert versions are available.
