Comments on the card: This was a nice set, even if it strongly resembles 1956 Topps. It was printed on thick brown card stock.
When acquired: February 2001.
How acquired: Paid $.33/card for a hobby box on eBay
Player's season: Chen had been acquired by the Phillies in 2000 from the Braves for Andy Ashby. He was 4-5 with in 16 starts for the Phillies in 2001 before being traded to the Mets for Dennis Cook and Turk Wendell.

Comments on the card: An authentic 2003 All-Star Game-Worn Jersey!
When acquired: April 2008.
How acquired: Paid $3.49 on eBay
Player's season: Shiggy was credited with a blown save in the 2003 All-Star game when he gave up 4 earned runs in 2/3 innings of work in the 5th. The Americans went on to win anyway. What a piece of All-Star history this is!

1996 Ultra Checklists Gold #3 Ken Griffey Jr.
Comments on the card: In 1996, Ultra made the checklists into an insert set. This is the Gold Medallion version. You might think that it would be tricked out in gold foil or something but the only difference is the circle around the Ultra logo that says "Gold Medallion.
When acquired: October 2012.
How acquired: Paid $2.39 on eBay
Player's season: 1996 was the first of Junior's 4 best years, his last 4 years with the Mariners. He hit 49 home runs in 1996, 209 total from 1996-1999.

2010 Topps Update #30 Roy Halladay
Comments on the card: One of the All-Star subset cards that Topps uses to pad out the Update set.
When acquired: December 2010.
How acquired: Acquired for $0.25 in a blaster box.
Player's season: Doc came into his 7th All-Star Game in the 5th inning with the score tied 0-0. He got 2 outs, one K, giving up two hits but no runs. Matt Capps got the final out in the 5th and got the win.

Comments on the card: Upper Deck's sophomore year with a design similar to their 1989 groundbreaking effort.
When acquired: Don't know.
How acquired: Don't know
Player's season: Scott made his major league debut with the Phillies in 1988 but spent 1989-1990 in the Phillies farm system before signing with the Expos before the 1991 season.

Comments on the card: I never cared much for this squeezed in the middle effort.
When acquired: January 2013
How acquired: Paid $0.04/card for a 100-card Fairfield repack.
Player's season: Chad went from a full-time player in 2006, to the part-timer he continues to be today in 2007.

1992 Stadium Club #88 Les Lancaster
Comments on the card: One of the best early 1990's sets.
When acquired: June 2012
How acquired: I bought a 36-pack box of 1992 Stadium Club for $5.00 at a card show. That worked out to about 1 cent per card.
Player's season: Les had been released by the Cubs on March 31, 1992 and actually pitched for the Tigers in 1992, with a 3-4 record and a 6.33 ERA.

2000 Aurora #110 Mike Lieberthal
Comments on the card: Aurora was one of a handful of different sets produced by Pacific. The design is similar to the 2001 Fleer Tradition, isn't it?
When acquired: Don't know.
How acquired: Don't know.
Player's season: Mike hit .278 for the Phillies in 2001 and made the All-Star squad. He ended up on the DL in July and through most of the rest of the season due to an injury he received in a collision at home plate with Bernie Williams.

2010 Topps #203 Greinke/Hernandez/Halladay
Comments on the card: 2009 American League ERA leaders.
When acquired: January 2010
How acquired: Paid $0.24/card for a blaster box
Player's season: Greinke was 16-8 in 2009 and won the 2009 AL Cy Young. Hernandez as 19-5 and the runner up for the Cy Young. Halladay was 17-10 and 5th in the Cy Young voting.

2008 Topps Opening Day #67 Ben Sheets

Comments on the card: The reddest base set ever!
When acquired: March 2009
How acquired: Topps must have produced a lot of this set. I got this in a blaster for $0.09/card. Blasters were widely available at discount prices in 2009.
Player's season: Sheets was 13-9 with 3 shutouts in 2008. He as also an All-Star. He had Tommy John surgery at the end of the season and missed 2009 entirely.

That's the design of the 2007 Upper Deck? Blah! What happened to the great classic designs they used to employ?
